West Acres at a glance

West Acres and all its extensions make up a large part of Nelspruit's suburban mileage. On the western side it stretches all the way from Mataffin to the Samora Machel/R40 Madiba Drive intersection at Rob Ferreira Hospital, and include i'Langa Mall and the Mpumalanga High Court.

Southward, it reaches just beyond Banket Street (Laerskool Laeveld's road and a main artery to Stonehenge towards the south) but ends before the Mpumalanga University of Technology on the R40. On the southern side, it includes the area around Belladonna Street and ends after Cussons Street on the Kaapsehoop Road.

Topographically, West Acres is relatively flat, its suburban streets gently sloping rather than veering dramatically. It is home to three of the city's largest and most established schools: Hoërskool Bergvlam (venue for the annual InniBos festival), Lowveld High and Laerskool Laeveld, as well as major churches, many nursery schools, guest houses and some retirement development.

For the most part, large stands are complimented by established gardens and wide, tree-lined streets. A wetland running roughly parallel to the R40 creates pockets of undeveloped natural habitat throughout these suburbs. A significant amount of properties has been adapted for multi-generational living, with many sporting garden cottages or some sort of separate dwelling.

Although sectional title properties are on the rise, especially towards the I'Langa/Belladonna side, older, more established areas like Extension 6 (around Percy Fitzpatrick Street) have mostly escaped high-density development and still retains its spacious suburban character.
